- How to Handle Excuse #12: Overwhelm28 July 2010, 7:36 am
When folks start thinking about transitioning their lives to become fully mobile, everything involved with that transition can be quite overwhelming. And that overwhelm can easily become an excuse that keeps you from moving forward towards your goal. There’s so many things that have to come together, such as: securing a mobile friendly income source deciding [...]... - Nomadic Fitness Solution – Running!23 July 2010, 8:47 am
Staying fit can be a challenge for us nomadic types, faced with small living spaces, a lack of equipment, and an ever-changing environment. It is hard to have any sort of fitness routine when there is essentially nothing routine about your day-to-day life. Bikes just weren’t worth it For our first couple years on the road, Cherie [...]... - Our iPhone App Essentials for RV Travel21 July 2010, 2:50 pm
As Technomads, it should be no surprise that we are mobile technology lovers. We love our iPhones (and yes, we did just both upgrade to the new iPhone 4), and we are growing increasingly addicted to our iPads (yup, we have two). We consider both of these fine pieces of technology to be essential components of [...]... - See, Hear and Read16 July 2010, 8:36 am

Oftentimes when folks hear what we’re up to – we get the response of ‘You’re living my dream!’. To which we of course reply ‘Then why aren’t you doing it too?’. We are in process of compiling our responses to the common excuses that folks give us to that question, some very valid. We aim to share [...]...
- Setting Up Life as an Expat in Kigali, Rwanda24 July 2010, 4:19 am
I’ve been in Kigali for less than a week and I feel like I’ve been here for ages. There’s something about this place the just feels comfortable. I had a good feeling about the country as soon as I boarded the clean, spacious, road-worthy bus at the Tanzanian border that was driven at a normal [...]... - Rwanda By Bus = Possibly Not My Best Idea21 July 2010, 4:19 am
Something about travelling Africa by public transport really appeals to me. Africa itself seems like an adventure and taking it all on by road seems like the best way to do it. After yesterday’s bus ride I’m not so sure this was the best idea I’ve had in my life… I needed to go from Arusha [...]... - Why (I Think) Advertisers Want to Give Me Money19 July 2010, 7:51 am
You’ve asked for it so here it is! I’ve posted a few earning updates lately where a huge portion of the money I’ve earned has come from direct advertising and I know you want to know how these deals happen. The bad news is that people get in touch with me, so I don’t have [...]... - Short Skirts and Learning to Say Yes16 July 2010, 9:30 am
After my fantastic couchsurfing experience with Gabriel and his family I was ready to head up to Arusha to get my safari on. I bought my ticket at a manic bus station and was on the bus the next morning bright and early at 5:30am. I was happy to have Gabriel’s security guard help me [...]... - An Amazing Intro to Tanzania Through Couchsurfing14 July 2010, 7:32 am
I’ve been a member of Couchsurfing almost since the website began but had only participated a measly one time when I was in China. It was a fantastic experience and I constantly wonder why I don’t do it more often and then still end up not doing it. Until last week when I found myself [...]...
- 101 Things To Do Before Your Trip29 July 2010, 12:00 am
An interesting post caught my eye yesterday by Nico Crisafulli, a contributor for AirTreks. In it, he highlights a number of useful tasks that might need to take place before leaving on an extended trip. As we are 2 months away from our own 3 month journey throughout Southeast Asia, we’re deep into our own [...]...
- Are you seeing the whole road?28 July 2010, 12:00 pm
I got stopped by the police last night because my flashlight was at half-power. Specifically, my car had a headlight out. I couldn’t see the whole road, and the road couldn’t see much of me. The officer wanted to make sure I knew, because people often overlook their lack of illumination. It’s easy to do. You [...]...
- Vagabonding Case Study: Becky Ances28 July 2010, 12:00 am
Becky Ances http://www.beckyances.net Age: 34 Hometown: Peterborough, NH Quote: “Most of our problems arose from our connections to our hometown. On the traveling side we had problems every now and then, but it is just easier to roll with it.” How did you find out about Vagabonding, and how did you find it useful before and during the trip? I [...]... - Review: The Cocoon Coolmax Travel Sheet27 July 2010, 12:00 pm
Cheap guesthouses are de rigueur for budget-conscious vagabonds. Unfortunately cheap often means suffering lumpy, rock-hard mattresses, grungy sheets and suspect bedding. While there’s not much you can do about mattresses that feel like plywood, when it comes to sheets and bedding, many vagabonds opt for some sort of travel sheet — a layer between you [...]... - Some nice stuff and nowhere to put it27 July 2010, 12:00 am
I have a lot of nice stuff. I have a painting of a peacock feather, all gold and blue and tiny jewels, that I plucked from a windswept art fair at Burning Man the first year I went by myself. I have a curvacious photo that I took, developed, and printed myself, of the naked cyanotyped [...]...
- Review of the iPad for Traveling27 July 2010, 12:35 pm
I recently purchased the base model of Apple’s iPad (16 GB, wifi only version: $499) and I’ve been traveling with it ever since. It’s become my day-to-day computing device and even though it’s intended purely as a multimedia device, I’ve found that it can handle a number of things my laptop used to do. First, [...]... - Welcome to the Desert: Burning Man 201014 July 2010, 10:55 pm
Man, writing 2010 reminded me – we’re in the future. Which actually leads me to the next part: Are you a digital nomad? A traveler? Bound for The Burn? Want to meet up? The awesome travelers/digital nomads Cherie and Chris are running Camp Nomadia again this year at Burning Man. I’ll be there too, filming [...]... - How to Volunteer Your Way Around the World13 July 2010, 12:45 pm
Today’s guest post is from Kirsty from Nerdy Nomad and besides earning her income online, she dedicates much of her time to volunteering in various countries. She’s an inspiration to me and I hope this post inspires more traveling volunteers. (That’s Kirsty in the photo below – top/left, volunteering in Haiti). When people imagine what [...]... - The Adventure Begins: NYC and Beyond8 July 2010, 2:34 pm
Every great trip should begin with a series of minor catastrophes. If there isn’t already a proverb about this there should be. We began ours by missing our flight, spending a day in the Portland airport, overheating our baby in the NYC humidity, missing a meeting with friends, canceling our dinner at the famous WD-50, [...]... - So You’ve Graduated from College, Now What?29 June 2010, 4:54 pm
With graduation season wrapping up, I’m remembering my post-college days in 2000, just after the “dot com” bubble burst and suddenly all those folks who flocked to Seattle and Silicon Valley were unemployed, fresh out of school and totally screwed. Ten years later, are things much different? This spring, I’ve gotten a number of emails essentially asking [...]...
- Great Festivals of the World28 July 2010, 3:56 pm
Festivals. A place where people looking to have a great time can dance, listen to great music, celebrate, party, have fun, and relax. They happen all over the world for many different reasons. Some celebrate religion, some the new year, some art, some the harvest- whatever the reason, every month, somewhere in the world, you’ll [...]...
- My Own Private Budapest25 July 2010, 1:02 pm
Budapest. The beautiful city on the Danube. It’s a city I’ve never heard anything bad said about. “If you love Prague, you’ll love Budapest” people would tell me. And they were right- I did like Budapest, though not nearly as much as I like Prague but that’s another story. This story is about [...]... - Living off Your Website Reboot22 July 2010, 6:18 pm
Last year, I released my book on how to successfully make money from your website so you can break out of the cubicle and fund your travels or just have more time to do what it is you like. Since then, I’ve experimented with a lot of different methods and techniques, learned new things, plus [...]... - This one time, while traveling….20 July 2010, 11:30 am
Last weekend I met some old friends from college who I haven’t seen since graduation. They wanted to know one thing about my travels: “What were my crazy stories? What were the wild things that have happened to me?” I don’t often think about the crazy things that happen while I’m traveling. To me, [...]... - The Weekly Photo: Fiji Sunset18 July 2010, 2:28 pm

- Visa extension run and meeting up with fellow bloggers22 January 2010, 6:01 am
Hey guys, I apologize for the lack of updates over the past few weeks. I've been really busy, first with finishing up the translation work I was doing and now working on some of my own projects.... - New Year’s Values31 December 2009, 4:33 am
The New Year's celebration, like other holidays, has its peculiar traditions; fire-works, Auld Lang Syne and blog posts telling you how to stick to your resolutions. Not here though. For a start I still think of the year as following the academic timetable. In my mind the new year still starts in the late Summer or early Autumn. The Winter period is only the half way point while the time of transition and reflection is the Summer. Anyone else still have this years after they left education?... - Merry Christmas!25 December 2009, 3:13 am

One of the Christmas traditions people in the UK like to enjoy is speculation as to what will be the Christmas #1 Single. It usually ends up being the song that grandma's and grandads buy as a Christmas present for their grandchildren. Songs that have topped the charts in past years include Bob the Builder's 'Yes we can', Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in the Wall' and 'Mr. Blobby' by Mr Blobby (look that last one up). It's not the hugely significant cultural event that it's made out to be (some pe...
